From our supporting experience, customers usually have two myths while searching products corresponding to their illumination requirements for surveillance at night. For example, an IR illuminator with longer projection distance benefits my camera to see more clearly. The more LED bubble is, the brighter the illuminator is. These are common wrong ideas which might lead to bad vision of your cameras. In fact, whether the image seen by the camera is clear or not depends on not only the illumination of the added IR illuminator but also the inherent specification of the cameras. How to choose the right IR illuminator becomes an important thing for decision makers.
Keys to choosing right IR illuminator:
1. Be aware of the connection between IR projection distance and its beam angle.
2. Match the IR illuminator with the focal of your camera to prevent the light exposure.
3. Select the illuminator with a right wavelength for your cameras in different applications.
Firstly, LonTrend IR illuminators are designed based on mono-power consumption. With the fixed available power consumption, IR illuminator projects to short distance with large beam angle; to long distance with small angle. For example, IR 30 m, 90°, and IR 100 m, 30°; thus users must make sure that your object is located within the fan-shaped visible field of view. As environment conditions changes, it is suggested to do on-site testing to affirm the performance of the total solution.
Secondly, select the IR corresponding to the focal of your camera. If the focal of your camera lens is short but you use an IR much longer than the focal distance, there will be a problem of exposure which worsens and blurs the surveillance of your camera.
Thirdly, LonTrend provides complete illuminator range, including visible light (white light) and IR light (740 nm, 850 nm, or 940 nm). Generally, white light illuminator is suitable for the environment where light is needed for both camera and human eyes. Except for the color of the light, the wavelength is regarded as a crucial element for surveillance in different solutions. For example, 740 nm IR illuminator is usually used for the automatic number-plate recognition cameras. 850 nm is the wavelength compatible with most of the cameras in normal usages. As 940 nm wavelength is less visible, it is especially adopted in sensitive areas, such as military, border and marine where we do not expect to be found by enemies.
To brighten your camera visions, LonTrend provides our customers with two sorts of solutions: integrated IR illuminator up to 100 m and external IR illuminator up to 270 m. Regarding the external IR illuminators, LTIX03 is an explosion proof IR illuminator which can be used with our ATEX TSAX1730 box housing on hazardous installation sites. LTIA03 is the model which is widely specified in projects thanks to its long projection distance. In addition, we can even expand the IR projection angle and distance by combining two or three illuminators together like LTIA033-R540 whose illumination can achieve the distance from 290 m to 540 m with 15° to 45° beam angle. With the trend of IP camera powered by PoE cable, LonTrend has launched new LTIA04 and LTIA07 with PoE power supply which may facilitate the installations in some special projects.
